Rhode Island Grand Prix Rules

What materials are allowed?

The official pine wood block must be used. Additional materials are up to you.

What can I do to the body, wheels and axles?

The block may be shaped in any way that is desired. Paint and other decoration are encouraged.

The wheels that come with the kit must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seams and imperfections from the wheels. The axles may be altered, polished and lubricated.

Car can’t be extended beyond the size of the original wood block.  Max car size 7" x 3"

Max Size

Cars must not be larger than 2-3/4"; Length - 7"

The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels and 3/8” clearance underneath the body (so it does not rub on the track)

Weight Limit

Max weight is 5.0 ounces. The official race scale that is used at car check-in shall be considered final. The official pine wood block must be used.  If you are adding additional weight you may want to purchase a digital scale to make sure your car is under 5.0 ounces.


What happens on race day?

Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it.

How do I get the pinewood car starter kit?

After purchasing your spot in the race, your starter kit will be mailed to you. You can also choose to pick it up from Anchor Subaru:

What is the race track?

All aluminum, 8 lane race track. 8 contestants will race at once. Races will continue until all cars from each race group have been timed.

How are winners determined?

The fastest car from each race group will receive a first place prize.
